I'm so happy that I got to read this debut novel. It was nothing like I expected and still left me wanting more. That is my idea of a job well done.

Sixteen-year-old Dusty Everhart breaks into houses late at night, but not because she’s a criminal. No, she’s a Nightmare.

Literally.

Being the only Nightmare at Arkwell Academy, a boarding school for magickind, and living in the shadow of her mother’s infamy, is hard enough. But when Dusty sneaks into Eli Booker’s house, things get a whole lot more complicated. He’s hot, which means sitting on his chest and invading his dreams couldn’t get much more embarrassing. But it does. Eli is dreaming of a murder.

Then Eli’s dream comes true.

Now Dusty has to follow the clues—both within Eli’s dreams and out of them—to stop the killer before more people turn up dead. And before the killer learns what she’s up to and marks her as the next target.
The Nightmare Affair uses a few mythologies and folklore tales, but unique to this world. I loved the way Mindee flawlessly weaved the different stories and legends we've heard over time into this story, but still managed to them her own. I can't really explain is without giving some things away, but I will say that is only added to the story and made me want to know more.

The main character, Dusty, was so much fun. She was sarcastic and a trouble maker at times, but never backed down. We got to see the world of Arkwell Academy and magickind from her perspective, including the different people that she encountered.

One of the best things is Dusty's relationship with Eli. It's a bit rocky at first, but as they learn to work together you see the potential for much more. I, for one, am really excited to see where things go in future books.

And that is the only thing that I am disappointed about: having to wait for more!

If you're in the mood for a fun read with cute characters, intrigue, and some awesome mythology then this is the book for you!
