Blog Tour: Blood Entangled by Amber Belldene

Blood Entangled

Blood Vines 2

Author: Amber Belldene
Pages: 298pgs
Genre: Adult, Romance
Release Date: July 23rd 2013
Review Source: Omnific

KOS MARAS’s orderly life is in shambles—he must distribute Blood Vine to a population of ailing vampires, but Hunters block him at every turn. To make matters worse, each night he watches over a temptingly beautiful woman sleeping in his bed. He is convinced love cannot last a vampire-long lifetime and an entanglement will only cause them grief, but he doesn’t have the heart to send her away.

From a long line of blood servants, LENA ISAAKSON is destined to serve a vampire, but a string of humiliating rejections thwarts her pleasure. When Kos shows her kindness, she hopes he will claim her. Instead he proves himself a coward in the face of love and sends her to serve another.

Will the dark seduction of a rakish new vampire finally bring Lena the pleasure she desires or deliver her into the hands of Hunters who want to destroy everything the Maras family has worked for?

First, this book and series is for those 18 and older. May not be for everybody.

The first book in this series, Blood Vines, introduces us not only to our characters, but also to the wine that is eventually named Blood Vines. We are then introduced Zoey and Andre, as well as Kos, Bel, and Lena. This book is about Kos and Lena's story which I enjoyed so much. They were sweet and cute together, their was just something different about their connection.

I loved them even more than Zoey and Andre, if that tells you anything.

One of my favorite parts about this series is Amber's take on the vampires. She adds her own unique take on them, while sticking to the basics of what we know. Their background was fun to learn and I felt like I was delving into a whole new world that made it even more exciting to uncover.

Not only are we able to learn about the history of the vampires, but Amber also gives us a look into their enemies history, the Hunters. We get bits and pieces as the story progresses, that I think adds to not only the tension, but the overall story. She gives readers a look, not just at one side, but at both so you can see the motives behind them and understand where things might be headed.

I've definitely enjoyed this story so far and am intrigued to find out where the series is headed. It's clear that there's more where this came from *grins*

About the Author
Amber Belldene grew up on the Florida panhandle, swimming with alligators, climbing oak trees and diving for scallops…when she could pull herself away from a book.  As a child, she hid her Nancy Drew novels inside the church bulletin and read mysteries during sermons—an irony that is not lost on her when she preaches these days.

Amber is an Episcopal Priest and student of religion.  She believes stories are the best way to explore human truths.  Some people think it is strange for a minister to write romance, but it is perfectly natural to her, because the human desire for love is at the heart of every romance novel and God made people with that desire. She lives with her husband and two children in San Francisco.

AND here's an excerpt for everyone to enjoy:

Mr. Merrick and I face each other. I rock back and forth on my feet nervously.
“Well, I guess this is good-bye.” I stick out my hand for him to shake.
Mr. Merrick slips his hand into mine, but instead of shaking it, he uses his hold as leverage to pull me into him.
“I’m really looking forward to tomorrow evening, Miss Peters,” he says, his lips hovering dangerously close to mine. “After all, I believe I owe you a proper kiss.”
My jaw drops. If what we shared earlier isn’t a real kiss in his book, I can’t imagine what one actually entails.
I feel one hundred pairs of eyes on us from every direction.
“Uh, thank you for, uh, coming, Mr. Merrick,” I say, trying to remain calm, as though he and I are having nothing more than an innocent conversation.
Mr. Merrick drops my hand, but doesn’t move away. As if I’m not turned on enough, he leans in and brushes his lips to my ear. “Welcome to my world, Miss Peters. You’ll soon discover that I live up to my many reputations in every way.”

The Runaway Year

Author: Shani Struthers
Pages: 260 pgs
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 2nd 2013
Review Source: Omnific Publishing

Dumped by her hotshot boyfriend and boss, Layla Lewis quits her job and heads to Trecastle in North Cornwall to house-sit for a friend-of-a-friend. Trecastle isn’t new to her; it's a place where she holidayed regularly with her now-estranged mother. It’s also the home of Hannah McKenzie, her childhood friend. Hannah has tempted her with a place to live and a job in the local pub. Needing time to nurse her battered heart and escape her “real life” for a year, Layla accepts.

Hannah is a talented artist as well as a barmaid. She lives in the village center with her boyfriend Jim, a singer in a local band. They are happy together, or as happy as they can be, considering. Hannah loves Jim, but there is someone she loves more and it’s pushing them to breaking point.

Meanwhile, back in Brighton, Layla’s fiery yet loyal friend Penny seeks revenge on her behalf, sending a forged email that could damage her ex’s business prospects. Penny wonders if she has gone too far but is soon preoccupied with her own problems: the sizzle has fizzled in her marriage, and she feels neglected. After getting frisky with Dylan one night, she confesses all to her husband—and he’s been like ice ever since.

Over the course of a year, there is laughter and heartache as all three endeavor to rein in their tumultuous love lives—discovering you can run all you like, but if it’s love you’re up against, true love, good things can only happen when you stand your ground.
I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from The Runaway Year, but I'm rather glad that I checked it out. Shani gave readers a little bit of everything; romance, friendship, misunderstandings, all set on the English country side.

Shani right off the bat introduces her three main characters: Layla, Penny, and Hannah. And while this novel is a romance, it's also about these three women, as friends and as individuals. Their each unique and pretty different from one another, but you can easily see how they can be so close. I loved the banter between them, especially with all of the British sayings. It was perfect.

Each woman was dealing with a relationship problem, but at the core they also had to deal with themselves. I liked how Shani didn't make it a male bashing story, but more a finding yourself story. They each learned a little bit about themselves and were able to grow and figure out what its was that they truly wanted.

Shani also did a tremendous job of describing the English country side and landmarks in Cornwall. I've always wanted to go to Europe and Britain and after reading this I have even more of a yearning now. They took the time to explore the little village they lived in and took in the beauty that was all around them and I loved getting the chance to picture it for myself.

The Runaway Year was about three friends, learning about themselves and about love through wacky adventures and misunderstanding. A lot of fun, and I can't wait for more from Shani.

And now, if you'd like the chance to read it:

TBR Tuesday

Making a plan for what I wanted to read for the month seems to work out pretty well, so I thought I'd take a page from my sister's book (pun intended) again and post my plan for this month. You can check out her blog HERE to see what she's up to.

Last month I did pretty well, but was unable to finish two of the books that were on my list. So, I've decided to add them on to this month. My original plan for July got switched around when my sister and I found out that there was going to be a pretty cool signing in August. I want to try and read all of their books before then. PLUS, I have a book club book to add in their as well.
So, for this month I hope to read:

And then for this month the book club that I joined picked:

I'm a little nervous about that one, but we'll see. Anyways, from this list I'll be able to add 3 more debuts to the challenge which will land me at 15 if I can finish them all this month. And I will have finished two series (Nightshade Prequel and the Revenants) as well.

This will most likely be a pretty busy month, but I'm looking forward to it. What are your plans for the month in the reading world? Let me know.
