Aubrey Price is in the final months of her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto. Bright, witty and fiercely independent, Aubrey works part-time for the college Dean and has her sights set on graduating with distinction. When she meets Dean Grant’s son, Daniel, the TA in her senior Shakespearean studies course, a shared love of the Bard’s works and an instant mutual attraction draw Aubrey and Daniel together. Unfortunately, a strict anti-fraternizing policy, made more perilous by a black mark on Daniel’s record, keeps them apart.

Against this academic backdrop, Aubrey and Daniel navigate their way through a steamy courtship, their forbidden romance aided, abetted and sometimes thwarted by a colorful cast of friends, family and classmates.

I was really excited when I saw that this was being published and that there was going to be a blog tour, so I jumped at the opportunity.

This was a fun read with witty characters that I really enjoyed getting to know. Aubrey was down to earth and focused on her end goal of finishing college. Her love of Shakespeare was something I could relate, although I can't quote him at the drop of a hat. Daniel was definitely a mystery at first. A guy that seemed to extremely intelligent, yet incredibly aloof. The more got to know him and the more that was revealed about him, I found myself liking him as well.

Oh, and if you're looking for a great supporting cast then you've come to the right face. I have to say I really enjoyed Daniel's friend Penny. She's a hoot. Just trust me on this one.

I have to say that I really enjoyed the "angst" between the two lovebirds. Their forbidden romance, at least until her class finished, forced the two to get to know each other beyond a physical relationship. It was interesting to watch them flirt and navigate learning about one another when they couldn't to show affection to each other.

And I am so happy to know that there are two more books in this series and we'll get to see more this two crazy kids. There's definitely so much more for them to learn about one another and I want them to finally be happy and free to be with one another. Is it 2014 yet?

Sylvain Reynard's Next Project

Here's a message that Sylvain posted on his website this morning discussing his next project when the Gabriel series is finished (the link to his site is also at the bottom):
Dear Everyone,
Back in September, I wrote a post in which I mentioned my next novel. I'm pleased to be able to give you more information now.
My next novel is the first in a new series, and it will be entitled The Raven.  With this novel, I'm asking you to pack your bags and travel with me to the city of Florence. The Gabriel Series showed you the city during the day.  This time, I'll show you Florence's underworld, which is ruled by creatures of the night …

Here's the formal announcement:
From the New York Times bestselling author of the Gabriel Series comes a dark, sensual tale of romance in a city shrouded in mystery…

Raven Wood spends her days at Florence’s Uffizi Gallery restoring fine works of Renaissance art.  But an innocent walk home after an evening with friends changes her life forever. When she intervenes in the senseless beating of a homeless man, his attackers turn on her, dragging her into an alley.  Raven is only semi-conscious when their assault is interrupted by a cacophony of growls followed by her attacker’s screams.  Mercifully, she blacks out, but not before catching a glimpse of a shadowy figure who whispers to her …

Cassita vulneratus.

When Raven awakes, she is inexplicably changed.  She returns to the Uffizi, but no one recognizes her and more disturbingly, she discovers that she’s been absent an entire week.  With no recollection of the events leading up to her disappearance, Raven also learns that her absence coincides with one of the largest robberies in Uffizi history – the theft of a set of priceless Botticelli illustrations. When the baffled police force identifies her as its prime suspect, Raven is desperate to clear her name. She seeks out one of Florence’s wealthiest and elusive men in an attempt to uncover the truth about her disappearance.   Their encounter leads Raven to a dark underworld whose inhabitants kill to keep their secrets …

As I mentioned in my September post, readers of Gabriel's Redemption will be able to read an excerpt from The Raven at the end of both the paperback and e-book editions.

But what I didn't mention was that one of the characters of The Raven appears in Gabriel's Redemption.  Can you identify him or her? I welcome your guesses in the comments below and on social media.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there's a connection between The Gabriel Series and my new series - a connection that is more than simply me, or the city of Florence, or the Uffizi Gallery. If you've read the cover copy above carefully, probably you're beginning to guess the answer. But I'll be explicit and state that we won't be saying goodbye to the Professor and Julianne at the end of Gabriel's Redemption. Look for them to have cameo appearances in The Raven as well ...

While I don't have a release date for The Raven yet, I hope to have one soon. This novel marks my transition from a contemporary love story to a paranormal one. I hope you'll join me on this journey and that if you have friends and family who enjoy paranormal novels, you'll help me share the news with them.

As we approach the December 3rd release date of Gabriel's Redemption in North America, my American publisher has listed a giveaway of the novel on Goodreads.  US entrants can enter the contest  here.

And if you'd like to read a new excerpt from Gabriel's Redemption and enter another contest, you can do so here at Romance Times.

Finally, I want to wish everyone who is celebrating Thanksgiving this week a very happy holiday. I have much to be thankful for and in particular, I'm thankful for you, my readers.

All the best and thank you for your continued support,
SR

Blog Tour: The Home Court Advantage by N.M. Silber + Giveaway

The Home Court Advantage
Lawyers in Love 2

Author: N.M. Silber
Pages: Kindle edition
Genre: Romance, Contemporary, Humor
Release Date: November 29th 2013
Review Source: Author

For those 18+.

Once upon a time, two lawyers fell in love across a courtroom …

Gabrielle and Braden have fallen in love and face a bright future together if they can just survive all of the crazy people they encounter, like anonymous napkin droppers, UFO enthusiasts, crooked businessmen, nude drunk drivers, and a woman who tries to break into jail. When the gavel falls will the verdict be happily ever after?

Come join the fun as the sexiest couple in the Philadelphia Criminal Court System shares more witty banter and red hot lovin’ with a dash of mystery thrown in. The story that began with The Law of Attraction concludes with lots of love and laughter in The Home Court Advantage.
N.M. Silber's Lawyer's in Love series is two books in and filled with a great cast of characters, crazy situations, and love and romance. Everything you could want in a book.

There is plenty of humor throughout this second installment, and the character's only make it even more ridiculous. Gabrielle and Braden are surrounded by friends and family, that are either lawyers as well or into politics. And none of them seem to have any verbal filters whatsoever. I have a feeling I would be embarrassed and red all the time if I had friends like them.

But, the best part for me were the different court cases that they tried. For the most part they were outrageous and laughable, situations and people that you'd never picture actually happening. I don't know how Gabrielle could handle the cases she had with a straight face, but that just made her character even more fun to read about.

And if all of that wasn't enough, N.M. added a bit of mystery for this rambunctious cast of characters. Who is trying to threaten Gabrielle, and what could they possible want?

There is definitely a lot that takes place in these first 2 books, and if your looking for romance and humor with a bit of intrigue, then this series is definitely for you.

About the Author

Once upon a time ... N.M. Silber was a criminal defense attorney who got up each morning, donned her power suit and sensible pumps, downed a gallon of coffee and set out to "fight the good fight" while trying to not go insane. Having a dark sense of humor and a sarcastic wit helped -- a lot. Another thing that helped was reading. As escapism was the goal, she liked to read romance novels, especially really funny ones and really sexy ones. Then one day something beautiful happened -- she read one that was both funny and sexy at the same time. She hung up her power suit, put away her sensible pumps, and moved her coffee mug to her computer. Now she writes funny and smutty romance novels herself and she lives happily ever after.

Sometimes a dream is big and time is short. Alison Oburia was working on her PhD when the idea for her first novel, Passion Fish, came to her in a dream. Instead of finishing her dissertation, she turned all of her energy toward writing her first novel with co-author Jessica McQuinn. Her second effort, a short story called “The Bridge,” was published in a collection of short stories available in Omnific’s A Valentine Anthology. Now that the author bug has bitten, Alison spends nearly every night writing. Her next novel, a story of international intrigue, murder, and romance, is nearly complete, and following that is a planned trilogy about four people struck by tragedy all learning to live and love again. Level 2 (The Memory of After) by Lenore Appelhans

Level 2 (The Memory of After)

The Memory Chronicles 1

Author: Lenore Appelhans
Pages: 281 pgs
Genre: YA, Sci-Fi,
Release Date: January 15th 2013
Review Source: Purchase, Publisher

In this gripping exploration of a futuristic afterlife, a teen discovers that death is just the beginning.

Since her untimely death the day before her eighteenth birthday, Felicia Ward has been trapped in Level 2, a stark white afterlife located between our world and the next. Along with her fellow drones, Felicia passes the endless hours reliving memories of her time on Earth and mourning what she’s lost-family, friends, and Neil, the boy she loved.

Then a girl in a neighboring chamber is found dead, and nobody but Felicia recalls that she existed in the first place. When Julian-a dangerously charming guy Felicia knew in life-comes to offer Felicia a way out, Felicia learns the truth: If she joins the rebellion to overthrow the Morati, the angel guardians of Level 2, she can be with Neil again.

Suspended between Heaven and Earth, Felicia finds herself at the center of an age-old struggle between good and evil. As memories from her life come back to haunt her, and as the Morati hunt her down, Felicia will discover it’s not just her own redemption at stake… but the salvation of all mankind.

I love the original cover for this, but it's been changed along with the title, which I'll put at the end for anyone who's interested.

It took a little bit of time for me to get into this particular book, but once I did I couldn't put it down. Lenore did a phenomenal job of intervening the present time with Felicia's past memories. We got to experience what her life had been right along with her, including the memories that were a bit more difficult for her to deal with.

This probably isn't too spoilery, but if you don't want to chance it then feel free to skip this part. I loved how Lenore used the bees that Felicia would see in her memories, and created a hive like structure for the after-life that she was in. It was brilliant and showed just how different that place was to what she had know before.

Waiting for the next book has felt like forever, but I have a feeling that it will definitely be worth it. There's a such a great build up as you near the end of this first book, a fast pace setting if you will. And though you aren't left dangling, I can't wait to find out what is in store for these character's next. August 2014 can't come fast enough!

And, here's the new cover and title:

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra

Clockwork Princess

The Infernal Devices 3

Author: Cassandra Clare
Pages: 570 pgs
Genre: YA, Fantasy, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy
Release Date: March 19th 2013
Review Source: Purchase

A net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. Mortmain plans to use his Infernal Devices, an army of pitiless automatons, to destroy the Shadowhunters. He needs only one last item to complete his plan: he needs Tessa Gray.

Charlotte Branwell, head of the London Institute, is desperate to find Mortmain before he strikes. But when Mortmain abducts Tessa, the boys who lay equal claim to her heart, Jem and Will, will do anything to save her. For though Tessa and Jem are now engaged, Will is as much in love with her as ever.

As those who love Tessa rally to rescue her from Mortmain’s clutches, Tessa realizes that the only person who can save her is herself. But can a single girl, even one who can command the power of angels, face down an entire army?

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment, and the tangled threads of love and loss intertwine as the Shadowhunters are pushed to the very brink of destruction in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

Anyone who's read this blog for any length of time will know how much I've loved this particular series. I had no idea how to feel about the first book, but from the moment I started reading it I fell in love and anxiously waited for the rest of the trilogy to be released.

My sister and I even had a pretty good talk about what we liked and didn't like once she'd read it as well. There's so much that Cassandra puts into this Shadowhunter world that you have to have time to let it all sink in, at least that's the case for me.

First, I absolutely love the Victorian setting. Nice suits, fancy dresses, and carriages, all within a world of Shadowhunter's and downworlders. It's great and so flawlessly done, Cassandra did such an incredible job of incorporating everything.

This series also has some of my favorite characters including: Henry and Charlotte, Will, and even a few new ones introduced in this last one. I hated to their stories to come to an end, but again I loved how Cassandra did it, weaving things together to show how our beloved favorites are related down the line.

I can say without a doubt and without giving anything away that I was actually quite satisfied with how this particular story ended. I wasn't sure where things were headed as things progressed, but I think in the end each character had their happiness.

I will say that does leave me somewhat concerned about City of Heavenly Fire, but we'll just have to wait and see *crosses fingers*.

And, before I go, can I just how much I love this cover! It's absolutely gorgeous and mystical which I think suits Tessa to a "T".

Waiting on Wednesday: Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead

(Coming July 2014)
Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.

In The Fiery Heart, Sydney risked everything to follow her gut, walking a dangerous line to keep her feelings hidden from the Alchemists.

Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.

For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. Meanwhile, Adrian clings to hope in the face of those who tell him Sydney is a lost cause, but the battle proves daunting as old demons and new temptations begin to seize hold of him. . . .

Their worst fears now a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian face their darkest hour in this heart-pounding fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where all bets are off.
I haven't had a chance to read The Fiery Heart yet, but I saw this cover and I couldn't help but look for a description too. Nothing is really given away from what I can tell, but oh my gosh! And the cover let's you know that there's some pretty strange stuff that's going on in this one. I can't believe we have to wait even as long as next July, and then 2015 for the last book!
This series, for me at least, is even better than VA and I'll be so sad when it's finally finished.
What are you waiting on?

Just when Lily feels closure within her grasp, secrets from the past finally catch up with her, and Lily will discover that more than her heart is on the line.

Will love be enough to save Lily?

~Book contains mature adult content
One of the things I've enjoyed the most about this series so far is that, at its core, it's a sweet love story. There are such adorably wonderful, tender moments that you'll almost swear that your teeth are rotten. I love getting to take a break from all of the angst and reading something so sweet.

This is the sequel to Alicia's debut Beautiful Chances, and it picks up right where the first book left off. Kyle has completely swept Lily off her feet even though she's struggling with a pretty devastating loss. The strength of their relationship grows even stronger and seeing Lily not only let him in, but her friends and family get closer is what seals the deal.

There's also a bit of a mystery that Lily and Kyle have to figure out. For her safety, and for her to be able to move forward. I definitely didn't see what was coming, which I think is what kept me interested in spite of the romance.

With one more book in Lily and Kyle's story, I can definitely say that I'll be sad to see it come to an end, but I can't wait for the last book. So much has happened to both of these characters and I want them to find their happily ever after!
